In the event of incapacity to take part in an examination due to illness, a medical certificate must be submitted which must be based on an examination carried out on the day of the claimed inability to take part in the examination.
Please report your illness to the respective secretary's office of the examination subject; submit the certificate with the form “application for recognition of inability to take part in examinations due to illness" to the Office of the Dean of Studies for Dentistry.

(1) The purpose of the nursing service is to introduce prospective and current students to the operation and organisation of a hospital and to familiarise them with the usual nursing tasks.
(2) The nursing service must be completed in a hospital or rehabilitation facility with a level of care comparable to that of a hospital. As proof, the hospital or rehabilitation facility will issue a certificate to the prospective student or student.
(3) The nursing service must be completed before the start of the Dentistry Degree Programme or during the non-teaching periods of the degree programme before applying for admission to the First Part of the Dentistry Examination.
(4) The nursing service lasts for one month.
(5) The following are to be counted towards the nursing service:
1. a nursing activity in the medical service of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr)
2. a nursing activity as part of a voluntary social year in accordance with the Act on the Promotion of a Voluntary Social Year in the version published on July 15, 2002 (BGBl. I S. 2596), last amended by Article 1 of the Act of December 9, 2004 BGBl. I S. 3242), or in accordance with the Youth Voluntary Service Act (Jugendfreiwilligendienstegesetz)
3. a nursing activity as part of the Federal Voluntary Service in accordance with the Federal Voluntary Service Act (Bundesfreiwilligendienstgesetz),
4. a nursing activity within the framework of civilian service in accordance with the Civilian Service Act (Zivildienstgesetz).
(6) The nursing service does not have to be completed if the student has completed one of the following professional trainings:
1. training as a midwife or obstetric nurse
2. training as an emergency medical technician.
3. training as an emergency paramedic,
4. training in health care and nursing,
5. training in healthcare and pediatric nursing,
6. training in geriatric nursing,
7. training as a nursing specialist or
8. a state-regulated training of at least one year's duration in nursing assistance or geriatric nursing assistance. The same applies if the student has completed a nursing service of at least one month as part of medical training.
(7) Nursing service completed abroad may be credited if it meets the requirements of paragraphs 1 to 4. Nursing activities carried out abroad or a successfully completed nursing education abroad may be credited if it is comparable to the activities specified in paragraph 5 or with the training specified in paragraph 6.
(8) Proof of completion of the nursing service must be submitted with the application for admission to the First Part of the Dentistry Examination.
(1) The purpose of the clinical traineeship is to familiarise students with practical dental work in various dental professional and activity fields involving direct patient contact, without students themselves working independently on the patient.
(2) The clinical traineeship may only be carried out under the supervision and guidance of a person who holds a license as a dentist and who is actively practicing dental work on the patient. The University enters into agreements with qualified dentists to carry out the clinical traineeship. As proof, the person supervising and guiding the internship provides the student with a certificate according to the template in Annex 11.
(3) The clinical internship must be completed during the non-teaching periods after passing the First Part of the Dentistry Examination. Students who have passed the First Part of the Medicine Examination or examinations in a model course of study, in which they have been tested on the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be demonstrated in the First Part of the Medicine Examination in a manner equivalent to that of the standard course of study, may only begin the clinical traineeship after regular and successful participation in the courses prescribed in Annex 1 Numbers 9 and 10.
(4) The clinical traineeship must be completed on a full-time basis. It lasts a total of four weeks. The clinical traineeship must be carried out for at least two weeks with the same dentist.
(5) A clinical traineeship completed abroad may be recognized if it meets the requirements outlined in paragraphs 1 to 4.
(6) Proof of completion of the clinical traineeship must be submitted with the application for admission to the Third Part of the Dentistry Examination.

Students may take electives offered by the university up to the First Part of the Dentistry Examination.
If the student completes an elective subject, the performance in that subject will be graded. The grade will be included in the certificate for the First Part of the Dentistry Examination.
Students must complete an additional elective subject prior to the Third Part of the Dentistry Examination.
They can freely choose from the elective subjects offered by the university.
