In recent years, the impact of human activity on the environment and the resulting consequences for the planet and humanity have become a central topic of political and public debate. In the Environmental Economics course, we approach the problem of environmental pollution from an economic perspective. We develop basic concepts and theories and measure their significance empirically.
In the course, we deal with the following topics, roughly organised:
- Environmental problems from an economics perspective
- The EU Green Deal and its consequences
- Externalities and market failures
- Regulation and pricing of CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases
- Assessing the costs of environmentally damaging behaviour
- International climate negotiations and information problems, climate clubs
