Abstract: This talk explores the Galveston Movement, a plan initiated in 1907 to redirect Jewish migration from Russia away from New York and the Northeast through the port of Galveston, Texas in an attempt to settle Jews in the Great Plains of the United States. The story sheds important light on issues related to Zionism, migration, and race in the United States and around the Jewish world.
