⚖️ Can AI tell when two legal clauses mean the same thing? And can we trust AI to make accurate and fair legal decisions?
On 18 September, our next Data Science @ Regensburg Meetup will explore these questions with two special guests joining us all the way from 🇨🇦 Canada, bringing perspectives from both academic research and real-world legal AI applications.
🎤 Adam Roegiest (VP Research & Technology at Zuva) will explore the limits of cosine similarity in text embeddings within legal texts, why ‘similar’ does not necessarily mean ‘equivalent’ when it comes to contracts, and whether reasoning-based approaches can provide more meaningful and interpretable assessments.
🎤 Yiran Hu (PhD student at the University of Waterloo) will discuss the trustworthiness of large language models (LLMs) in legal applications, focusing on robustness and fairness. She will present research on knowledge-injection attacks and counterfactual evaluation of fairness in judicial decision-making.
Come and join us to meet these wonderful people and chat about AI, data science and natural language processing.
