As part of the Bavarian State Government’s “Information and Communication Technology” funding program, the Chair of Information Systems (Prof. Dr. Günther Pernul) and the Chair of Process-Based Information Systems (Prof. Dr. Stefan Schönig), together with industry partners Scherdel INNOTEC, Integral-Scherdel, and Krones (overall coordination by Dr. Magdalena Glas). The project will run for three years and has a total funding volume of €622,000.
The project aims to develop a holistic security risk management system for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) by combining automation and skills development. Automated systems identify vulnerabilities and assess risks, thereby reducing manual effort and making security measures scalable. In the face of AI-powered attacks, human expertise remains essential: domain experts must critically evaluate analyses and make informed decisions. Practical training, such as cyber range exercises, prepares specialists for complex threats. At the same time, developers and configuration managers require training on security standards, while employees must be made aware of risks. Through these approaches, REINSIST strengthens the resilience of organizations and supports compliance with regulatory requirements such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act and the NIS2 Directive.
