Ian Merkel will join Prof. Nunan's lecture class “Decolonization and the End of European Empires” to discuss his recent book "Terms of Exchange: Brazilian Intellectuals and the French Social Sciences" (University of Chicago Press). The event concludes with a brown bag lunch discussion exploring themes in global intellectual history.

A two-day block seminar on "European Colonialism and the History of Knowledge" examines how colonialism shaped modern social sciences. The seminar draws on recent scholarship by historians including George Steinmetz, Durba Mitra, and Erik Linstrum.
