Third annual conference of the Public History Association (phfv) 2026 in Regensburg
The D-A-CH Association for Public History Research (phfv), founded in 2023, serves the regular, also informal exchange on scientific and science policy issues in the field. Its third annual conference will take place on 26 June 2026 at the University of Regensburg.
The focus will be on professional exchange and networking between public history researchers in German-speaking countries. The keynote speech by Achim Landwehr (Konstanz) will kick off the conference. The project forum, in which young researchers can present their qualification projects and put them up for discussion, is a special focus. This year, the forum is being organised under the motto "Doing History".

“Das kontaminierte Museum” – Geschichtskulturelle Debatten aushandeln und (digital) erforschen
"This collection makes me sick!" This quote is written on one of around 40,000 blue slips of paper from a visitor survey at the Kunsthaus Zürich. Why the drama and why does art make people sick?
These questions are explored in the lecture "The contaminated museum" (E. Keller). The main focus will be on the debate and controversy surrounding the Bührle Collection in Switzerland based on visitor feedback from the special exhibition "A Future for the Past. The Bührle Collection: Art, Context, War and Conflict". The focus will be on the topics of Nazi-looted art, provenance research and restitution and the challenge of how digital history methods can help to open up such data as fields of learning and research in democratic historical cultures.
