Overview
Every year since 2005, a delegation of students from the University of Regensburg has taken part in the world's largest and most renowned simulation conference of the United Nations, the National Model United Nations (NMUN) in New York. Their task is to represent a country assigned to them as realistically as possible during negotiations in various United Nations committees. The students receive academic preparation for this in a separate seminar in the winter semester. Hundreds of universities and thousands of students from all over the world take part in the NMUN.
The Regensburg students take a critical look at the United Nations and global governance and familiarise themselves with the positions of the country they are representing. Preparation and the conference are held in English, and professional behaviour and teamwork are key to success. The Regensburg students are very often recognised for their brilliant work on resolutions and in committees, as well as for the position papers prepared in advance. NMUN has now established itself as a flagship project of the University of Regensburg.
In addition, the Chair of International Politics organises an exclusive supporting programme before the conference begins in New York, including visits to embassies, international organisations, UN staff, NGOs and news agencies.
