What is telc?

telc stands for The European Language Certificates. It is part of an internationally recognized system of European language exams and is integrated into the Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area. It is completely aligned with the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR), which applies for all European languages and is recognized beyond Europe. telc certificates are available in ten languages and for every language level specified by the CEFR - including German as a foreign language.

Which telc Exam Can I Take at Universität Regensburg?

At Universität Regensburg, you can take the telc Deutsch “C1 Hochschule” exam at the Department of German as a Foreign Language. telc Deutsch “C1 Hochschule” tests academic German language skills at a very advanced level. The exam is aimed at people who want to study at a university in a German-speaking country, students, or those already working in an academic profession who would like proof of their German language proficiency.

The German Rectors’ Conference and the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs recognize the telc Deutsch “C1 Hochschule” certificate as proof of German proficiency for international applicants wishing to study at a German university. According to the Rahmenordnung über Deutsche Sprachprüfungen für das Studium an deutschen Hochschulen, “holders of the telc Deutsch “C1 Hochschule” certificate do not need to submit further proof of German proficiency in their application. The telc Deutsch “C1 Hochschule” certificate can therefore replace a TestDaF or DSH certificate.

How Do I Register for the Exam?

You can register for the exam by filling out the registration form below.

You will subsequently receive more information about the exam and payment methods. Please note that we can only process complete registrations.

*The registration deadline ends approximately three weeks (21 days) before the date of the exam.


How Much Does it Cost?

Taking the telc Deutsch “C1 Hochschule” exam costs €179.  Once you have registered, you will receive more information about available payment methods.


What Does the Exam Look Like?

The telc “C1 Hochschule” exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written part of the exam takes 3 hours and 40 minutes (including a 20-minute break). The written exam has the following structure:

Reading comprehension

90 minutes

Break

20 minutes

Listening comprehension

40 minutes

Written production

70 minutes

The oral exam usually takes place as a group exam with two or three other candidates. It takes 16 or 24 minutes. Before the start of the oral exam, you have 20 minutes to prepare yourself. The oral exam can take place on the same day as the written exam or on another day.


What Should I Bring on the Day of the Exam?

Please bring the following on the day of the exam:

  • Valid photo ID
  • Pencils, pencil sharpener, and eraser

How Often Can I Repeat the telc C1 Hochschule Exam?

The exam can be repeated as often as needed. If you failed one part of the exam, e.g. the oral part, you do not need to repeat the entire exam. You can find out more about this and other rules and regulations in § 5 of the Prüfungsordnung.

How Can I Prepare for the telc Exam?

Even if you already have a good command of German, you should know the structure of the telc C1 Hochschule exam. The Department of German as a Foreign Language offers a wide range of different Test Preparation courses. These courses are subject to a fee.

How Do I Obtain My telc Certificate?

telc certificates usually become available approximately 4 weeks after the exam. As soon as we receive your certificate, you will get an email from our Office with information on how to pick up your certificate in person. Alternatively, you can also have the certificate sent to you by mail. Please be sure to give us your current address so we can send it to you.


Can I Get a Copy of My Certificate?

If you need a copy of your certificate, please directly contact the telc headquarters in Frankfurt am Main using the contact form.  Please note that requesting a second certificate is subject to a fee and can only be processed if either the original document is available for substitution or you send a written declaration of loss of the original.

Copies of certificates are authenticated by telc GmbH with signature and seal.
