Since the summer semester 2020, the Chair of Strategic Industrial Goods Marketing has been offering a colloquium (seminar 22973). It is offered irregularly.
Contents
In this seminar, students explore a highly topical question: What strategic, technological, product-related and organisational adjustments must companies make in order to sustainably secure their competitiveness in times of geopolitical, economic and technological upheaval?
The starting point is successful ‘hidden champions’ and their exceptional capacity for transformation. Drawing on current case studies and academic literature, students examine how companies identify strategic opportunities at an early stage, utilise new technologies, further develop business models and adapt their organisation to changing conditions. Dynamic capabilities form a central theoretical framework for this.
The focus is on five thematic areas, from which students prioritise one as part of the topic allocation process and select it for their seminar assignment.
Learning objectives
The aim is to apply academic explanatory models to specific business case studies, to develop research questions independently, and to derive well-founded alternative courses of action for the management of transformation processes from these.
Participants
Students who wish to count this course towards their Master’s in Business Administration as a seminar should register via FlexNow. Students who wish to count this course as an elective should register with the Examination Office for Economic Sciences.
Course overview
| Course language | Cycle | Hours | ECTS | Exam |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| German | irregular | 3 dates | 6 | approx. 20 minutes per student for presentation (10 minutes) and discussion (10 minutes) |
Procedure:
Topics are allocated on the basis of prioritisation; where there are several interested parties, the decision is made by drawing lots.
The starting point for each project is a successful ‘hidden champion’, whose capacity for transformation is scientifically analysed in relation to one of the specified topic areas.
The results are presented orally in a structured manner over three consecutive sessions and are then critically discussed as a group.
The focus is not on presenting extensive sets of slides, but on scientifically sound argumentation and discussion. A maximum of five slides may be used.
At the end of each session, the presenter summarises the key findings of the discussion, which in turn form the basis for the next session.
A total of three assessments (one per session) are to be submitted, each carrying equal weight. Optional meetings with the supervisor are possible, but are under no circumstances intended for the specific preparation of the respective session.
Dates: 3 meeting dates, which will be announced in good time.
Duration: Approx. 20 minutes per session per student: 10 minutes’ presentation + 10 minutes’ discussion
Start of the topic allocation: 19 October 2026
Participants:
Min. 3 people, max. 5 people.
Any further interested parties will be placed on a waiting list.
If fewer than three people register, the seminar will not take place.
Binding registration from 07.09.2026 - 18.10.2026 in FlexNow
