Chair of Computational Immunology

One of the greatest marvels that evolution has created is our immune system. Various cells, proteins, organs and tissues work together to protect us from a wide range of pathogens and dangers. At the same time, excessive and prolonged reactions would harm our body. How to maintain this "healthy balance" is one of the most fascinating challenges in biomedical research today.

Our research approach is multidisciplinary and deeply rooted in the interfaces between biology, computer scientists and statistics. We develop innovative computational methods to harness omics data and gain insights from it. In addition, our central interest is the immune system and how it functions. Our research ranges from the identification of abnormal cellular recognition features that enable the immune system to distinguish diseased from healthy cells, to the study of molecular and dynamic interactions between proteins and genes involved in primary immune defence.
