Information security is essential
Digitalisation and the widespread use of data have made information security indispensable in all digital systems and applications.
Artificial intelligence for IT security
AI is increasingly being used to detect cyber attacks and improve IT security through intelligent analysis and automation.
Simulation and cyber security exercises
Development of infrastructures to simulate and investigate cyber incidents, incident response procedures and mitigation measures with a focus on AI-driven technologies.
Safe and intelligent production systems
Application of AI to make production systems more efficient, safer and smarter while overcoming challenges in safe automation.
The ongoing digitalisation and increased performance of digital infrastructures in recent years has increasingly placed information security at the heart of all digital systems and applications in organisations. The increasingly everyday, data-driven use of digital applications in society (e.g. personal data) also requires more and more protection. In addition, artificial intelligence (AI) methods and techniques are now accessible to the general public. This means that AI can be used and applied in a variety of ways and more easily - including for information technology (IT) security. For example, cyber attacks can be detected more quickly using AI-based systems and analyses.
The chair deals with central questions of research, development and application of AI for IT security and how techniques and methods can contribute to greater transparency of AI applications. It is also investigating which technical infrastructures can be used to analyse and simulate cyberattacks and how future AI-based simulations can be set up efficiently. Another focus is the safety and automation of production facilities and how these systems can be made more efficient, safer and smarter through AI. Important questions are how safe automation can be realised in the future with these constantly changing new technologies.
