News: Agnes Böhmelt was awarded with the University of Regensburg’s 2026 Teaching Innovation Award in the “Assessment” category

As part of the “Spotlight on Teaching” event, the University of Regensburg (UR) presented its 2026 Teaching Innovation Awards on June 10, 2026. The awards recognize outstanding projects in the categories of curriculum, teaching, and assessment, and highlight the particular importance of high-quality, forward-looking teaching.

In the Assessment category, Agnes Böhmelt was recognized for her innovative exam method in the seminar and writing workshop “„Utopie und Unvernunft: Feministische Manifeste“. The course is part of the Gender Competence (external link, opens in a new window) additional program, which is offered jointly by the University of Regensburg and OTH Regensburg and brings together students from various disciplines.

The innovative exam format replaces traditional forms of assessment, such as presentations or term papers, with creative and application-oriented forms of knowledge acquisition and dissemination. After analyzing historical and contemporary feminist manifestos, students develop their own positions and write individual manifestos. The exam work takes on a variety of formats—from zines, posters, and speeches to poems or songs. A distinctive feature of the concept is its outreach to the public: the works are made visible beyond the seminar room, for example through exhibitions, university events, or public actions. The exam design opens up different approaches to demonstrating performance, promotes creative forms of expression, and simultaneously creates alternative avenues for students with exam anxiety.
