REX Annual Course (external link, opens in a new window)

REX, the Regensburg Faculty of Law’s exam preparation programme, provides comprehensive preparation for the First State Examination in Law. From Monday to Thursday, lecturers deliver modules across all three areas of law. Thematic sections are grouped into individual blocks. The modules are structured so that all students can attend them without any timetable clashes. They cover the entire compulsory syllabus for the First State Examination (Section 18 JAPO). The sessions are structured so that all students can attend them without any overlap. They cover the entire compulsory syllabus for the First State Examination.

The course structure is heavily based on specially designed case studies and, compared to other models, gives students greater flexibility in terms of how they organise their exam preparation. You can find all course components in the current REX annual timetable.

We wish you a good start and every success!

REX Exam Preparation Course (external link, opens in a new window)

The Faculty of Law traditionally offers a course in written examination preparation for Civil Law, Criminal Law and Public Law to help students prepare effectively for the First State Examination.

Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to sit their own weekly exam papers. Twice a year, a mock exam is also offered, which allows students to experience the particular strain of sitting six exams on consecutive days.

Please register for the exam preparation course via G.R.I.P.S. (external link, opens in a new window)! There you will find case studies and answers, as well as all the necessary information updated daily!

Procedure:
Participants upload their answers as a file to GRIPS when the deadline for that particular exam arrives. The exam is marked there and made available again for the review session. Please refer to the instructions in the GRIPS course for further details!

Mock exam:
The next mock exam will take place in spring 2026 on 18, 19, 20, 23, 24 and 25 March.

Materials

There is certainly room for debate as to which materials are best for preparing for the state examination. Every learner is different. REX therefore adopts a highly tailored approach that allows for a high degree of personalisation.

For each area of law, there are corresponding recommended reading lists, which are also available in the library. In addition, some lecturers have compiled lecture notes to aid exam preparation. Alongside this reading material, resources for the individual modules are also uploaded to the ‘GRIPS’ e-learning platform.
