A warm welcome to the page of the Representative for Gender Equality in Science and the Arts at the Faculty of Law!

Equality is a core guiding principle of the University of Regensburg and is put into practice in all areas of the Faculty of Law. The Faculty is actively committed to equal opportunities and to fostering an open, respectful and discrimination-free study and working environment.

The Faculty’s Officer for the Equality of Women in Science and the Arts and her deputies are the personal points of contact for female academics and students regarding information, advice and support on issues specific to women and those relating to career development, as well as on balancing family and career.

The officers for the equality of women in science and the arts ensure that female researchers, female teaching staff and female students are not disadvantaged, in accordance with Article 22(3), sentence 1, of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHIG) (external link, opens in a new window); they support the university in fulfilling its duties under Article 22(1) of the BayHIG. In accordance with Article 22(1), sentences 1 and 2, of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHIG), the university promotes the effective realisation of equality between women and men in the performance of its duties and regards this as a guiding principle. Furthermore, it works towards the elimination of existing disadvantages.

Current offers

Note regarding the escort service during the trial phase – this service has been discontinued!

Since 13 November 2023, an escort service has been available in the evenings, initially on a trial basis, from the Law 1 / Economics reading rooms and the Philosophicum reading rooms to the Central Bus Station (ZOB) or to the car park on campus. However, due to a lack of demand, this service has been discontinued.

Workshops on raising awareness of racism, diversity and gender issues in the 2026 summer semester

This semester, Dr Birgit Bockschweiger is once again running workshops for both students and academic staff. There will be a series of workshops, each comprising three sessions during the summer semester, on the topics of raising awareness of racism, diversity and gender. Scholarships for early-career female researchers

Grants under the Bavarian Programme for the Realisation of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching

Once a year, grants may be awarded to early-career female researchers under the Bavarian Programme for the Realisation of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching. The following types of grants are available:

  • Habilitation grants
  • Postdoctoral grants
  • Doctoral completion grants

Applications must be submitted to the faculty’s representatives for the equality of women in science and the arts by a deadline announced in good time. An internal faculty committee decides on the ranking of the applications. The final decision on the award of the grants is made by a central committee chaired by the University’s Officer for the Equality of Women in Science and the Arts.

Further funding opportunities

Information on funding opportunities for early-career female researchers in law

The representatives for gender equality in science and the arts at the Faculty of Law would like to draw the attention of female PhD students and those preparing for their habilitation to funding opportunities available under the so-called ‘Financial Incentive Scheme for the Promotion of Gender Equality’.

Funds from the FAS can, in principle, be used to support anything that furthers an academic career.

Specifically, this includes financial support for...

  • Participation in and organisation of conference trips, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Information events (including those held outside the university)
  • The purchase of literature and software
  • Printing subsidies for theses or other publications
  • Translation costs for publications
  • Support for guest lectures by female academics or for invitations to cooperation partners by female academics at the UR
  • Other material resources, provided they are related to academic work (laptops, online access to journals, etc.)
  • Measures under the Faculty’s gender equality strategies

Funding of up to €500 is generally available, and may be higher where appropriate. Funding is awarded on two dates each year. This year’s deadlines for submitting applications are:

1 May 2026 and 1 October 2026.

1 May 2026 and 1 October 2026.

Documents to be submitted:

- Additional documents required for a claim for travel expenses:
Business travel application (to be submitted before the trip, for university staff only), application for reimbursement of travel expenses (for university staff only), all original receipts (tickets, hotel bills, conference fees, etc.)

- Additional documents required when applying for a printing grant for a doctoral thesis (application only possible after printing):
Publishing contract, invoice, bank transfer receipt, doctoral degree certificate (or confirmation from the Examinations Office, Ms Robl)

- Additional documents required for all other applications (e.g. photocopying costs):
