News: New member: Raiana Lima, a visiting PhD candidate from Brazil

Raiana Lima is a PhD candidate from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil, currently visiting the Theoretical Ecology Group at the University of Regensburg from September 2026 to March 2027 to carry out part of her doctoral thesis.

23 September 2026, by Melina de Souza Leite

We are happy to welcome Raiana, who is working with Dr Maximilian Pichler during her stay in Regensburg. Her PhD research focuses on how the processes shaping fish communities in coastal lagoons change with an environmental harshness gradient, and how these changes are reflected in the phylogenetic structure of the communities.

During her stay, Raiana will work on methodological aspects of her PhD research involving joint species distribution models (jSDMs), while further developing their application to questions in community ecology. In addition to her PhD research, she also works with ecological networks, investigating how network structure and robustness change in response to targeted species removals.

More information about Raiana's research can be found on her ResearchGate profile: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Raiana-Lima (external link, opens in a new window)
