Prize for good teaching
The Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art organises an annual award for good teaching. The university management collects the proposals from the faculties and can nominate two candidates for the University of Regensburg.
The prize for good teaching is an appreciation for special commitment to teaching and at the same time an opportunity for the faculty to stimulate an internal exchange between students and lecturers on quality criteria for good teaching and on innovative methods and content of good teaching.
The person nominated by the Faculty of Biology and Preclinical Medicine traditionally receives the Faculty's teaching award on Biosciences Day.
How is the price determined?
Prize for good teaching
A multi-stage process was introduced at the Faculty of Biology and Preclinical Medicine in 2021, in which representatives of the student council (for) Biology and Preclinical Medicine play a key role in shaping the content of the student survey.
New criteria are developed each year and the students of the faculty are then surveyed on these criteria.
In 2024, these were the following criteria
1. Design of teaching materials
The lecturer provides a variety of didactically well-structured teaching materials that help to make even complex topics tangible.
2. Interpersonal skills & interaction
The lecturer is characterised by flexible, student-friendly and open communication and is also approachable outside of regular lecture times.
3. Innovation & digital teaching
The lecturer develops and utilises innovative and illustrative teaching concepts, including digital teaching offerings, to enrich teaching.
4. Topicality & scientific rigour
The lecturer makes cross-references to current research and supports students in independent academic work.
5. Commitment
The lecturer demonstrates a high level of commitment to the continuous improvement of teaching conditions and actively involves students in this process.
6. Inclusive education & diversity
The teacher promotes an inclusive learning environment that respects the diversity of students and takes into account their different backgrounds and needs.
The survey is then carried out using the teaching evaluation system evasys and sent to all enrolled students in the faculty. The questionnaire is designed in such a way that the participants can evaluate the lecturers with whom they have attended courses in the past two semesters. In particular, students are asked to justify the numerical evaluation in a free text. The persons involved in the process (deans of studies in biology and preclinical studies) are not included in the survey. The results of the survey will be evaluated by a jury of six faculty student councils together with the two deans of studies and discussed with regard to the criteria mentioned. The results of the regular course evaluations can also be included in the discussion and the decision.
