The project, which runs for two years until 31 December 2019, is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, with the aim of maintaining and safeguarding the emotional well-being of family carers involved in the care of patients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, by equipping them with skills and coping strategies. Three programmes are being developed and delivered, aimed directly at family carers: a training course on managing distressing emotions, a seminar on dealing with family conflicts, and a family mediation scheme, supported by a general information platform. The data collected through interviews and questionnaires provide an insight into the extent to which the project’s objectives are being achieved. The evaluation results obtained in this way will ultimately be used to provide recommendations for improvement even whilst the project is ongoing, thereby contributing to quality assurance.
