From a press release by the Literaturhaus München (external link, opens in a new window):

The Bavarian Academy of Writing (external link, opens in a new window) is not a fixed training programme, but a flexible range of seminars that accompanies authors at the various stages of their writing, combines professional feedback and criticism with the writing process and creates networks. Participation, including overnight stays, is free of charge, only travelling expenses usually have to be covered by the participants themselves.

Who is it for?
Enrolled students from all disciplines (except senior students) at the participating universities (see below) can apply to take part. We are looking for students who have been writing for some time and would like to expand their writing skills, as well as those who would like to deepen their understanding of literature through writing. 9 - 10 participants are selected for each course. Each of the two courses comprises three weekends, during which the participants meet at one of the participating universities.

Participation, including overnight stays, is free of charge. Only travelling expenses usually have to be covered by the participants themselves.

What happens there?
The courses are a protected space in which people mainly discuss the texts they have written themselves - this includes the writing tasks submitted, the narrative that is to be created during the course of the seminar and the craft exercises that accompany the writing. Every writer is a reader first. This is why these discussions are closely linked to selected readings. There are also workshops with invited speakers (mainly authors, but also journalists, translators and publishing staff).

How do you apply?
To apply, please submit
- curriculum vitae in tabular form
- a scene or history of the assigned writing task of 3 - 5 standard pages (30 lines of 60 characters each)
- optional: an (excerpt of) another prose text(s) of your own (up to 15 pages)
- Applications must be submitted in quadruplicate (complete with address, telephone and e-mail) by post to the professor at your university.
