Credit Transfer in the Field of American Studies
For all students of English/American Studies, a longer study period at an English-speaking university is a central component of their education. The international programs offered by the University of Regensburg and national scholarship programs such as ERASMUS and DAAD offer a wide range of opportunities to study abroad. In the interest of internationalizing studies, the practice of recognizing academic achievements completed abroad has recently been made more flexible. Recognition in the field of American Studies is carried out by the Department of American Studies. In principle, all achievements that are recognized by the host institution for the respective study unit (term, semester, trimester, block, summer school, etc.) by students who are regularly enrolled at the host institution.
Documents required for recognition: course description, corrected papers or exams, and a grade record/transcript as proof of the course grade. Upon recognition, the final grade for the course will be transferred. It is no longer necessary to expand one or more shorter papers into a longer (seminar) paper.
Students of American Studies are particularly encouraged to take advantage of the interdisciplinary breadth of American Studies during their stay at a North American university and to attend courses in American literary and cultural studies, African American studies, Native American studies, women's studies, American history, media studies, film studies, comparative literature, etc. In addition to traditional departments, interdisciplinary organizational units (so-called programs, e.g., History and Literature, Gender Studies, Literature and Religion) often offer courses that are equally eligible for credit in Regensburg.
