On 26 May 2025, Prof. Kühling spoke at a high-profile event organised by the Bavarian State Office for New Media (BLM) on the future of media regulation. Over 100 guests from academia, the professional sector and politics travelled to Munich for the symposium entitled ‘The shift of public discourse to the internet – how much Europeanisation can media diversity withstand?’. Kühling explained how, in his view, effective cooperation between the European and national levels is possible and emphasised the importance of the independence of regulatory authorities. Other panellists included Dr Tobias Schmid, Director of the State Media Authority (LFM) of North Rhine-Westphalia and Commissioner for European Affairs, and Heike Raab, State Secretary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to the Federal Government and for European and Media Affairs.
