On 27 May 2025, Christian Doleschal, Member of the European Parliament and alumnus of the Faculty of Law, attended Prof. Kühling’s lecture on European law. Mr Doleschal is a member of the Christian Democratic Group of the European People’s Party (EPP) and, amongst other roles, Vice-Chair of the important Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection.
He not only told the students about his political career, the day-to-day work of an MEP and how MEPs deal with the turbulent developments in current world politics, but also, during the lively discussion, addressed the challenge posed by right-wing populist and -extremist MEPs in the European Parliament, as well as the prospects for a European defence and procurement policy. He vividly described the process of drafting European legislation and the active and responsible role that individual MEPs play in the European legislative process.
