The concept of human rights is central to our modern democratic identity. Its academic study and reflection are of particular importance, especially at a time when the fundamental values of democracy are increasingly under threat.
The aim of the conference ‘Perspectives on human rights: Historical, conceptual, political’ is to bring together PhD students and postdocs from the fields of political philosophy, theory and the history of ideas with researchers who engage with the idea of human rights from various perspectives, and to contribute to an interdisciplinary discourse that combines historical examination, philosophical and conceptual analysis, and practical political applications.
The conference is being organised in cooperation with the Bavarian Doctoral College for Political Theory and also serves as the annual conference of the German Society for the Study of Political Thought (DGEPD).

A grant for travelling expenses may be awarded to some early-career scholars upon application and subject to availability. Travel Information
Regensburg is situated in the south-east of Germany and is easily accessible by train and plane. With Albrecht Dürer Airport in Nuremberg and Franz Josef Strauß Airport in Munich, two of Germany’s largest airports are only about an hour’s train journey away (the train journey from Frankfurt Airport is a little longer, taking approximately 3.5 hours in total). Regensburg railway station is served by both ICE and local trains and is located 600 metres from the conference venue.

There are several reasonably priced hotels in Regensburg. The following are all within walking distance of the train station and the conference venue:

Conference venue
The conference will not take place on the university campus but in a beautiful old 14th-century building called “Haus der Begegnung”, which is closer to the hotels and restaurants we plan to visit.
