The Chair of Prof. Dr. Eva Helene Odzuck stands for political theory across the entire breadth of the sub-discipline (i.e. including political philosophy, the history of political ideas & the philosophy of science of political science).
A particular focus is on research into the theoretical foundations, values and objectives of liberal democracy in an age that is significantly characterised by modern technologies:
The future of democracy will also depend on democratic societies adequately understanding and proactively shaping the opportunities and challenges of modern technologies for democracy. The Chair therefore not only carries out fundamental work in political philosophy, theory and the history of ideas as well as the theory of science in political science. The Chair also stands for a political theory that brings together historical, analytical and normative expertise in an application-oriented way and works together with interdisciplinary partners to make the challenges and design options of democracy (e.g. in biotechnology and digital technology, ecological transformation) visible and to contribute to an objective and civil public debate on the present and future of democracy.
