Doctorate

The academic degree of Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr rer. nat.) and Didactics of Physics (Dr phil. nat.) can be obtained at the Faculty of Physics. The doctorate is regarded as proof of the ability to carry out in-depth academic work and enables a scientific career as well as career paths in the private sector.

If you are interested in doing a doctorate at our faculty, you should first contact a professor who is close to the research area in which you would like to do your doctorate. You can discuss your doctoral project and the next steps with them.

Requirements

Requirements for a doctorate in the natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) is a successfully completed degree in physics or an equivalent degree programme that qualifies for a doctorate.

Requirements for a doctorate in the didactics of physics (Dr phil. nat.) is a successfully completed teacher training programme in a subject combination with biology, chemistry, mathematics, science and technology or physics as a teaching or didactics subject with a Standard Period of Study of at least 7 semesters. Further credit points (e.g. in the field of empirical educational research) must be acquired at the same time as the doctorate.
