Prof Dr Michael Szurawitzki researches and publishes in the following areas:

  • German as a foreign language (especially specialised and academic language, text routines)
  • Grammar of the contemporary German language
  • Sociolinguistics
  • Text linguistics
  • Media linguistics, including interaction in social networks, advertising language (including historical, multimodal and with a focus on language contact), messenger communication, orality and writing
  • Contrastive and intercultural linguistics
  • Linguistic analysis of literary texts
