Financial Support

Financial Incentive System for the Promotion of Gender Equality (FAS) at the University of Regensburg

Every year, the university management provides the faculty representatives for equal opportunities for women in science and the arts with funds as part of the Financial Incentive Scheme for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities (FAS). These funds can be used to individually support young female academics at the university within the scope of their qualifications, for example through travel grants, printing cost subsidies, the purchase of literature, SHK positions or the financing of guest lectures. General information can be found here.

The funds are allocated on a decentralised basis by the Faculty's Equal Opportunities Officer.

Interested parties from the Faculty of PKGG must send their application to the Equal Opportunities Officer or her deputy. Your application should contain at least the following information

- Name, subject/reference to institute and chair

- Research project: Title and brief description

- Importance of the application in the context of the research project

- Type and manner: e.g. conference costs, travel expenses

- If applicable, evidence of the contribution to a conference (e.g. programme)

- If applicable, information on grants from another organisation

Here you will find specific information on the allocation of funds in the faculty:

- Guidelines for the allocation of FAS funds (as of 03.12.2024)

Note: For all early career researchers (including scientists), there is now the Faculty's mobility programme to promote early career researchers by subsidising active conference participation. Information can be found here.

Scholarships as part of the Bavarian Programme for the Realisation of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching

The Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts provides funding to realise equal opportunities for women in research and teaching. The funds are used to support highly qualified young female academics on their way to a professorship and are to be used for the living expenses of the female academics. The University of Regensburg is expanding this programme to include additional and supplementary funding as part of the additional measures to promote gender equality under the Federal and State Government's Programme for Women Professors III.

Depending on the allocation of funds, the following scholarships will be offered subject to budget provison:

(1) Doctoral start-up scholarships

(2) Doctoral degree scholarships

(3) Postdoctoral bridge scholarships

(4) Postdoc scholarships

(5) Habilitation scholarships

(6) Post-habilitation scholarships

Applicants must submit the complete documents digitally in a single pdf file to the respective Faculty Women's Representative and the Equal Opportunities & Diversity Coordination Office by the application deadlines.

An internal faculty committee decides on the ranking of the applications. The final decision on the awarding of scholarships is made by the University Women's Representative.

If you are interested, please contact the Faculty's Equal Opportunities Officer in good time!

You can find more information here.

Mobility grants for early career female researchers to finance research stays/research trips

In order to provide targeted support for young female academics, the University of Regensburg is offering annual scholarships to finance research stays and promote mobility for the period 2023-2027 as part of the funds raised through the Federal Ministry of Education and Research's Women Professors Programme II.

The faculty's Equal Opportunities Officer collects the applications and, together with an internal faculty committee, ranks the applications within the faculty.

You can find out more here.

Maternity protection bridging allowance

The University of Regensburg provides financial support in the form of a so-called maternity protection bridging allowance to bridge the legally prescribed employment bans for expectant and breastfeeding mothers within the meaning of the Maternity Protection Act as part of the funding provided by the Federal and State Women Professors Programme II.

The maternity protection bridging allowance serves

(I) to provide financial security for female scholarship holders if the scholarship provider does not provide funding for maternity protection periods;

(II) to compensate for the loss of teaching due to pregnancy/maternity leave by providing financial resources;

(III) the funding of research assistants to support the experimental laboratory work of pregnant women who are affected by employment bans.

The Equal Opportunities Officer of the Faculty gives her vote.

You can find more information here.

Gender Prize of the Faculty

Gender Prize of the Faculty PKGG

The Faculty awards an annual prize of EUR 300 from the funds of the Financial Incentive System for the Promotion of Gender Equality for an outstanding thesis (admission thesis, Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral thesis) with a gender focus. In exceptional cases, the prize can be shared between two applicants.

The thesis should fulfil at least one of the following two criteria:

  1. A previously marginalised gender-defined groups as the object of investigation
  2. A systematic, gender-scientific analysis of the subject matter (will be weighted more heavily than point 1)

The author should submit the application to the Equal Opportunities Officer by 31 January, together with a letter of recommendation or an expert opinion from the supervisor and his/her own description of the gender aspects of the thesis.
