Information on the nursing internship

The nursing internship is a compulsory part of the human medicine degree programme and provides an early practical insight into everyday hospital life. It comprises a total of 90 calendar days and must be completed in full by the time you register for the first section of the medical examination (Physikum) at the latest.

The aim of the nursing internship is to provide a basic understanding of the work processes involved in inpatient care. In particular, students learn about the tasks and requirements of professional nursing and develop an initial feel for interdisciplinary cooperation in everyday clinical practice.

The internship must be carried out on a bed-managing ward of a recognised hospital or an approved clinic. It can be divided into a maximum of three sections, each of which must comprise at least 30 calendar days.

We recommend that you start planning early and document the relevant evidence carefully, as this is required for registration for the Physikum.

For further information on recognised institutions, formalities and recognition procedures, please contact our Student Advisory Service.

In Regensburg, you have time for a 2-month nursing internship during the summer semester break and 30 days during the winter semester break.
