To all students of medicine
You may have already heard through the media that the German Measles Protection Act was passed in the Bundestag in November 2019.
The law not only regulates compulsory vaccination for kindergarten children and pupils, but also for healthcare workers. This means that students of human medicine and dentistry are also affected.
The aim of the law is to improve individual protection against measles, particularly for people who regularly come into contact with other people in communal and healthcare facilities. In the medium to long term, the WHO's global goal of completely eliminating measles is thus being pursued.
People are considered protected if they have received 2 measles vaccinations in their lifetime or have serologically proven immune protection. Without proof of vaccination or serological immune protection, the Faculty of Medicine will no longer be able to admit students for block internships, examination courses, etc. in the hospital from 1 March 2020 . Students who have already been admitted must provide proof of their measles protection by 31 July 2021 at the latest.
Important note
Neither vaccinations nor serological tests can be carried out by our University Medical Centre. Please contact your family doctor in this regard. The measles vaccination is usually covered by statutory health insurance as a booster vaccination.
Further information on the measles vaccination can be found in the vaccination calendar of the Standing Vaccination Commission at the RKI(https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/Infekt/Impfen/Impfkalender/Impfkalender_node.html) (external link, opens in a new window), which is also available there in 20 languages. If basic immunisation has been completed, no booster is required. Basic immunisations that have not been completed and missing immunisations can be completed or made up for with a single vaccination according to the vaccination calendar.
Proof of measles immunisation must only be provided to the Dean's Office when students transfer to the clinical area at the UKR.
Students will receive a form for this purpose from the Dean's office, which they bring with them to the occupational health check-up and have certified by the company doctors.
