Welcome to the Institute of Educational Science

The Institute of Educational Science focuses on empirical research into the requirements, content and consequences of teaching and learning within a wide range of societal domains. Our research encompasses both action and experience in formal education systems - such as higher education and vocational training - as well as the development of expertise and professionalism in professional domains.

The Institute has first-class scientific publications on relevant pedagogical issues from science and practice. Our interdisciplinary focus - which includes pedagogy, (educational) psychology and sociology - and the use of the latest empirical research methods - such as multi-level and network analysis - enable us to develop evidence-based solutions for the development and counselling of individuals, teams, organisations and educational systems.

Visit the chairs' pages for detailed information on the specialisms and responsibilities of each chair and the chair holders.
