Reflexive Monitoring in Action

The Reflexive Monitoring in Action (RMA) approach originated in sustainability research as a method for reflecting on and supporting systemic innovation processes in multisectoral networks.

It enables stakeholders to critically examine and improve their roles, routines, and goals. This is of central importance for ESD, as strengthening sustainability and ESD within an education system requires complex collaboration and ongoing adjustments to the strategies of various stakeholders—efforts that can be effectively supported through systematic reflection. As part of the project, an international expert workshop is planned that will focus in particular on adapting RMA methods to different areas of application and their specific challenges. Furthermore, targeted training for members of the ESD Monitoring Team will be conducted at the Institut Futur at Freie Universität Berlin. In addition, further RMA-based workshops are planned with committees from the national ESD process and other networks, which will be scientifically supported and evaluated. Subsequently, the results and methodological insights will be published in academic journals.
