Every month we organize different kinds of activities for our guests. Besides little walks and hikes, we invite everyone to join us for coffee afternoons and other events to get to know the city of Regensburg and its surroundings a little better.
On 25 June, we had a guided tour through “document Reichstag”[1], the Old Town Hall of Regensburg. It was very interesting to learn more about the city's political and historical past. Many of us did not know how important Regensburg once was or what role it played in European history, but after this tour we definitely had a much better understanding.
Our guide led us through different rooms of the Old Town Hall, each with its own story. We learned about the Immerwährender Reichstag (Perpetual Imperial Diet), which met in Regensburg from 1663 to 1806. One of the highlights was the Großer Reichssaal (Great Imperial Hall), which has served different purposes over the centuries and is still used today for official receptions.
For the last part of the tour, our guide took us down to the basement, where we learned about the judicial system of the past. Visiting the old prison cells and the torture chamber left many of us with a rather bitter feeling. Despite this, it was a very interesting and enriching experience for the whole group.
Thank you all for joining!
