Culture & Sport
The university offers a wide range of creative and sporting activities alongside your studies. Here you will find comprehensive information and useful links to cultural and sporting activities.
Theatre Groups and Stage
Over 15 student theatre groups are active at the University of Regensburg; the spectrum ranges from post-dramatic to political to improvisational theatre.
The Regensburg campus offers students a wide range of opportunities to get involved in front of or behind the stage. With the "Theatre at the University", there is a well-equipped theatre stage in the heart of the university where students can present their plays in a professional setting thanks to the support and funding of the Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz. Some of the student ensembles also perform in other languages such as English or Russian as well as pantomime. By the way: you don't have to study philology such as German language and literature or British studies to be able to perform theatre at the UR – you can get involved in most groups regardless of your subject.

Botanical Garden
The university's botanical garden was founded in 1977 and is now home to around 5,000 plant species. It supports research, teaching and nature conservation and is also a popular destination for strolls by students, staff or guests: both in the varied outdoor areas and in the air-conditioned greenhouses with tropical plants or cacti. The garden can be visited free of charge during regular opening hours.
