Uni Jazz Orchestra

The university jazz orchestras and combos

Uni Jazz Night 2020

The Uni Jazz Orchestras (UJO I & UJO II) are classic big bands with saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, guitar), often supplemented by vocals. Their repertoire includes swing, Latin, funk and modern jazz arrangements - from classics such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington to contemporary pieces.

The orchestra is conducted by Peter Thoma. Rehearsals take place regularly during term time. One or two concerts take place each semester, supplemented by guest appearances at events such as the Dies academicus or the university's summer festival.

Jazz combos

In addition to the UJOs, there are various jazz combos that play in smaller formations. Here there is more freedom and guidance on the subject of improvisation. The combos also regularly perform in and around Regensburg - for example at Uni goes Downtown.

Play in the jazz orchestra

The UJO was founded to give students and employees of the university the opportunity to play jazz in a big band line-up. We are always happy to welcome new musicians!

If you are interested, please send an e-mail to peter.thoma(at)ur.de (opens your email program) with details of your instrument and previous playing experience. The subject does not matter - everyone is welcome!
