This section summarises and links the most important catalogues and databases that are important for research in political science studies. Please also use the guide to using digital research tools (external link, opens in a new window). The selection is limited to the most important databases.

Library catalogues:

Regensburg Catalogue (external link, opens in a new window) (OPAC - Online Public Access Catalogue)
lists all books of the University of Regensburg and other Regensburg libraries - no search for articles possible.

Gateway Bavaria (external link, opens in a new window) (Library Network Bavaria)
brings together numerous Bavarian library catalogues - interlibrary loan possible.

Databases:

Database Information System (external link, opens in a new window) (DBIS)
Political science section - contains approx. 250 databases specialising in social and political science.
Recommended databases for political science literature research:

  • Political Science Complete - (Internationally oriented political science database on political theory, comparative politics, international relations, law and legislation, humanitarian issues and globalization. Provides access to over 2,000 specialist journals as well as full texts from 488 journals, e-books and 36,000 conference papers)
  • WISO (portal for economics and social sciences - provides access to journals on economic theory and practice. The social sciences section provides literature references from the fields of social sciences and politics)

Recommended databases for researching documents and newspaper articles:

  • LexisNexis (articles from several thousand journals, magazines and newspapers are available daily (and retrospectively) in full text)
  • Library PressDisplay (access to around 1700 international newspapers and magazines from 92 countries in 48 languages - access to issues from the last 90 days)
  • FAZ - full-text access to the archive of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (1993 to the present)
  • SZ - Full text access to the archive of the Süddeutsche Zeitung (1992 to date)

Electronic journal library

EZB - Electronic Journals Library (external link, opens in a new window) - political science section
Listing of over 5,000 political science journals - a licence is available for the majority of the journals, enabling full-text access and PDF download.

Important note:
Many of the services are only available within the university network due to the licence. External use is possible via the VPN client with the user account. Further information can be found here.

Guided tours and training courses

The University Library offers various subject-specific training courses.

In the basic module "Bib for Beginners" you will learn how to find and use literature for your subject in the Regensburg catalogue and also get to know the subject reading room.

In the additional module "Bib Advanced", you will learn everything you need to know about advanced literature searches for your subject (interlibrary loan, databases, digital services).
