Preliminary Course in Mathematics

For new students, we offer a preparatory mathematics course shortly before the official start of lectures, designed to ease your transition from school to university. In all physics-oriented degree programmes, mathematics is a particularly important tool. The aim of the preparatory course is therefore to refresh your knowledge of school-level maths and to teach selected topics from school maths, as well as calculation techniques, which are particularly useful and necessary in the first few semesters. The preparatory course is essentially limited to the material covered at secondary school. Topics include, amongst others:

  • Integral and differential calculus
  • Vector calculus
  • Trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions

Attendance is not compulsory, but is highly recommended. Prior registration is not required.

Dates for the preparatory course in mathematics will be announced on the information page for new students.
