News: Physics Up Close: The University of Regensburg invites you to get involved!

Experience physics for yourself and get an up-close look at the latest research: the University of Regensburg is inviting the public to the Degginger at the end of October. At ‘Physik hautnah 2026’, anyone interested can experience and try out physical phenomena for themselves through interactive experiments. The interactive exhibition at the Degginger will be open on 29 and 31 October. Experience physics for yourself and get an up-close look at the latest research: the University of Regensburg invites you to the Degginger (external link, opens in a new window) at the end of October. At ‘Physics Up Close 2026 - Physik hautnah 2026’, anyone interested can experience and try out physical phenomena for themselves through interactive experiments.

The exhibition will be open on Thursday 29 October from 4 pm to 7 pm and on Saturday 31 October from 11 am to 5 pm. Among other things, it will focus on fascinating effects from low-temperature physics and the world of the smallest structures. The experiments are suitable for adults as well as school pupils and bring current research to life.

Thursday offers a double treat: immediately following the exhibition, the evening event ‘Physics Up Close’ begins at 7 pm . Accompanied by live music, drinks and snacks, there will be entertaining talks on current research.

The professors

  • Christoph Strunk: Quanta and superconductors
  • Ferdinand Evers: Quanta, bits and information
  • Ferdinand Kuemmeth: Quantum information in semiconductors

will talk about their work – in a way that’s easy to understand, entertaining and doesn’t require a background in physics. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to chat with the researchers in person.

The University of Regensburg has chosen this format to deliberately bring its research into the city center and invite the public to engage directly with scientists.

Admission to the exhibition and evening event is free; no registration is required. The presentations will be held in German.
