Program Profile
The degree program is a combination of the well-established and very successful BSc Business Administration and BSc Chemistry programmes. Degree students on the BSc Business Chemistry programme will have basic theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of chemistry that are most relevant in an economic context. In addition, they will have a basic education in the core subjects of business administration and related disciplines (economics, management information systems), which will enable them to provide scientifically sound support for the value creation process in the chemical industry.
Is this the right program for me?
The Bachelor's degree programme in Business Chemistry is aimed at anyone who wants to combine an interest in natural sciences with economic thinking. Do you want to understand how chemical products are created - and how they are successfully marketed? Then you've come to the right place.
This degree program is right for you if you...
- Enjoy chemistry, mathematics and economic contexts
- like to think analytically and interdisciplinarily
- would like to work both in the laboratory and in management
- aspire to a career at the interface between research, development and business
- are interested in sustainable innovations and industrial processes
Typical future career fields:
Product management, technical sales, project management in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry, management consultancy in a natural sciences environment.
What makes this program special?
Linking chemistry and business at an early stage
At the Regensburg location, interdisciplinary training begins from the first semester: students learn chemistry and business administration in parallel from the outset. This close interlinking enables a holistic understanding of both subject areas and creates an interdisciplinary mindset at an early stage - an ideal preparation for later activities at the interface between research and management.
Unique in Bavaria:
The business chemistry degree program is only offered at a few universities nationwide - in Bavaria, Regensburg is the only location. The University of Regensburg thus offers a particularly attractive and rare degree programme for all those who are enthusiastic about both natural sciences and economic contexts.
Advantage for students:
Right from the start, you develop a feel for how scientific findings can be put to economic use - instead of having to make connections later on in your studies.
Accreditation:
The degree program is accredited and is continuously adapted to current scientific and industrial developments.
What can I do with this degree?
With a Bachelor's degree in business chemistry, you will have a unique combination of natural sciences expertise and business management skills. This programme qualifies you for a wide range of tasks at the interface between research, development and management - especially in the chemical, pharmaceutical and processing industries.
Important to know:
The Bachelor's degree enables direct career entry, but many companies require a Master's degree for management positions or R&D-related activities.
Internships, working student activities and experience abroad significantly improve your chances on the labour market.
Bachelor's graduates are often welcome in smaller and medium-sized companies - especially in interface functions.
Our recommendation: Master's programme as the next step
In order to specialise further and have even better career opportunities in the long term, we recommend a subsequent Master's degree in business chemistry.
Typical areas of employment after the Master's programme:
- Product management and technical sales
- Quality assurance and production planning
- Project assistance in research & development
- Management consultancy in a natural sciences context
- Interface functions between laboratory, marketing and management
A Master's degree also gives you the option of completing a doctorate later on - for example in the field of research, innovation or industrial development. A doctorate is not mandatory, but can be an advantage, particularly in a research-related environment.
Structure of the Program
Program Structure
The main objective of the BSc Business Chemistry degree program is to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills in the two subfields of chemistry and business chemistry that will qualify them for a postgraduate Master's degree programme. Consequently, the focus of this degree program is not on students' freedom of choice, but on a sound basic education. As this also extends to two subjects, it is difficult to realise elective options without losing sight of the core objectives and concerns of the degree program. The natural sciences part of the degree program described here will therefore not offer any options apart from the choice of thesis topic. In the economics part of the degree programme, constrained elective modules are offered at two levels that build on each other and allow students to set their own individual focus in the economics part.
Internationalization
The University of Regensburg offers you numerous opportunities to study abroad.
- 50 partner universities
