Is this the right program for me?

For the degree program, you should enjoy learning languages and intercultural competence and be curious about the culture and contemporary history of the Czech Republic in a Central European context. If you are interested in Central and Eastern Europe and would like to spend two semesters studying at Charles University in Prague, this is the ideal degree program for you. It is also important to be willing to think in an interdisciplinary way and to combine content from the subject areas involved, as well as to be motivated for international cooperation and concrete projects in a German-Czech environment during the integrated internship.

What makes this program special?

Special features of this degree program are the acquisition of a double degree (Bachelor of Arts / bakalář), an integrated stay abroad (2 semesters) at Charles University in Prague, an integrated internship of 3 months, the teaching of in-depth knowledge of Czech up to level UNIcert IV, as well as the promotion of the year abroad through scholarships.

What can I do with this degree?

This degree program serves as preparation for studies in relevant cultural and social science Master's programs, depending on the focus (see above) or work in internationally active institutions, organisations, companies and projects as well as work in the field of education.

“The German-Czech studies programme gave me the opportunity to further develop and anchor my interest in the Czech Republic and German-Czech relations. The one-year stay at Charles University in Prague was particularly formative for me, as was the experience of the Internship, during which I was able to deepen my acquired Czech language skills in a practical way.”

katarina Seidlmayer-Wörn, employee in the Joint Secretariat of the INTERREG BAVARIA - CZECHIA 2021-2027 programme, Bayreuth

“The career prospects that opened up for me after completing my degree in German-czech studies seemed "limitless". In all my job interviews so far, whether at NGOs, in business or in public Administration, I was asked about my language skills. Speaking the language of our neighbouring country always proved to be a big plus and a unique selling point compared to competitors.”
