Program Profile
The basic modules each conclude with a final oral module examination. Subsequently, two selected sub-disciplines are deepened by two advanced modules I, one of which is additionally deepened by an advanced module II. Specialised knowledge and working techniques are taught in these modules.
The concluding module includes an excursion and a methods course in preparation for the Master's thesis. The academic Master's thesis, which is accompanied by seminars, is designed to take nine months and can also be completed abroad.
The overall grade for the degree program is made up of the three final oral module examinations and the assessment of the Master's thesis.

What can I do with this degree?
A Master's degree in chemistry opens up a wide range of career opportunities - in research, industry, the public sector or in an international environment. With a Master's degree, you have a scientific qualification that is a requirement for many responsible positions.
Many graduates work in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, e.g. in research and development, analytics, synthesis, quality control or product development. Jobs in materials science, biotechnology, energy and environmental chemistry or food chemistry are also common options. Those who enjoy analytical work will also find employment in chemical analysis, environmental monitoring or government laboratories.
For chemists, a doctorate (Dr rer. nat.) is often the next step before starting a career. It enables in-depth scientific specialisation and is almost standard in research and development, in industry and in academic careers. A doctorate opens up particularly good career opportunities in leading positions, in applied research or in university teaching.
In addition, the Master's degree also opens up career opportunities in the higher civil service, technology transfer, project management, regulatory affairs, technical sales or scientific journalism, where chemical expertise is combined with organisation, communication or management.
In short, a Master's in Chemistry qualifies you for demanding tasks that require analytical thinking, scientific methodology and problem-solving skills - and forms the basis for a doctorate, which is almost essential for a career in research and development.
