The Master's programme is an advanced course of study in which scientific content and methods can be deepened and specialisations can be set. Requirements for this are the degree of an undergraduate Bachelor's programme or a comparable first professionally qualifying university degree. In addition, certain content is often specified as an aptitude requirement. The detailed provisions are set out in the respective Examination Regulations. A completed Master's programme entitles the holder to a doctorate.
The complex topic of Europe and its position in the world raises many questions, particularly in the present day, which can only be adequately answered from an interdisciplinary perspective.
This is precisely where the international Master's degree programme"East-West Studies. Europe in Discourse" programme.
Together, students from different countries examine relevant issues from the perspective of different disciplines such as law, economics, political science, history and cultural studies.

Structure of the Program
Program Structure
Module structure:
- Interdisciplinary modules:
Examination of intra-European East-West relations, various concepts of Europe and questions of European integration. - Specialisation modules (subject-specific focus):
Dealing with Europe-specific topics from two individually chosen disciplines (law, economics, linguistics, politics and social anthropology, history, cultural studies, literature). - Extension modules (subject-specific extension):
Further courses on Europe-specific topics from additional subject areas - Methods and techniques of academic work on interdisciplinary issues
- Project module Project management and teamwork:
Joint realisation of a Europe-related project in the internationally composed group of east-west studies students - Practice and mobility Practical competences:
Internship or intercultural experience abroad in preparation for professional activities. - Language modules Foreign language competence:
Courses in two European languages totalling at least ten semester hours per week. Each student must cover both language groups (see below) with their mother tongue and the foreign languages they have learnt.
An integral part of the degree program is a stay abroad of at least 8 weeks. The programme is rounded off by a wide range of specialist lectures, lecture series and language courses.
The Master's thesis comprises approx. 60 pages; it should generally be written in the 4th semester.
Module Overview
Internationalization
As part of the OWS-PR-M03 module, students are required to spend at least two months abroad. This can take the form of studying abroad, attending a summer school, excursions or even a (foreign) Internship. In order to organise the study programme as flexibly as possible, it is possible to "chunk" this stay abroad.
In addition, the student body is made up of students from different nations, so that international cooperation is also part of the degree program as part of the study projects.
Internship
As part of the module OWS-PR-M03, students must complete a stay abroad of at least 8 weeks. This can be completed as an internship abroad. (Internship page & Bayhost)

Details Requirements
Eligibility Test / Aptitude Test
Your suitability will be assessed on the basis of the qualification requirements set out in the Examination Regulations with regard to grade (at least 2.5 (=good), language skills and previous studies (must be in a humanities, society, law or economics subject and comprise at least 6 semesters Standard Period of Study).
Subject-Specific Language Requirements
Proof of knowledge of two foreign languages from the European area at least at level A2 of the common european framework of reference for languages (CEFR); the three languages (mother tongue and two foreign languages) must include at least one language from Western Europe and one from Eastern Europe.
If the mother tongue is not German, the proof of knowledge of German according to No. 2 is considered proof of one of the two foreign languages.
German Language Certificate for Students with Foreign University Entrance Qualification
DSH II or an equivalent certificate.
