The Master's programme is an advanced course of study in which scientific content and methods can be deepened and specialisations can be set. Requirements for this are the degree of an undergraduate Bachelor's programme or a comparable first professionally qualifying university degree. In addition, certain content is often specified as an aptitude requirement. The detailed provisions are set out in the respective Examination Regulations. Completion of a Master's degree programme entitles the holder to a doctorate.

  • Graduates are able to work independently using scientific methods.
  • They are able to develop specialised content scientifically and are able to reflect on this appropriately and structure complex contexts clearly.
  • They are familiar with current discourses in media and literary studies, can categorise them in general historical and history of science research contexts and evaluate them critically.
  • They transfer the content of literature, media and history studies as well as the history of science to new topics and tasks independently and in a solution-oriented manner and are able to research literary and media theory issues using specialised scientific methods and reflect on them in their historical and history of science contexts.
    To this end, they have in-depth knowledge of media and literary theory and extensive methodological skills that enable them to use their ability to analyse media, objects and texts theoretically and historically in order to independently explore further areas of media, literature and the history of knowledge and theoretical concepts.
  • They have the communicative competence to prepare their knowledge, understanding and conclusions in a comprehensible way for different target groups and to convey them both orally and in writing.
  • They are able to exchange ideas at an academic level and have acquired the specialist knowledge and skills required for subsequent doctoral studies or the transition to professional practice

Internship

An Internship of at least 5 weeks duration or 200 hours can be included in the practical and research module LWM-M 09.

Internationalization

Admission Restrictions / Selection Procedure

Two-stage Selection Procedure:

  1. 1st stage: Bachelor's degree grade of at least 2.5
  2. if grade is lower, 2nd stage follows: selection interview

Eligibility Test / Aptitude Test

Selection interview if the Bachelor's grade is worse than 2.5.

Admission for internationals

Applicants who have not obtained their higher education entrance qualification or their first degree at a German-speaking institution must provide proof of sufficient German language skills at the level of the German Language Test for University Entrance Qualification (DSH) with an overall result of at least DSH-2 or an equivalent examination.
