Johannes Elberskirch has been appointed by President Professor Udo Hebel as Professor of Dogmatics and the History of Dogma with effect from 1 June 2026. He will thus succeed Professor Erwin Dirscherl in the Department of Systematic Theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology. He declined an appointment to the Chair of Dogmatic Theology and Ecumenical Theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Mainz.
Having studied, taught and conducted research in Rome, Munich and Münster, the new chairholder is delighted to be returning to the University of Regensburg, where he himself studied fundamental philosophical issues in theology and catholic theology twenty years ago.
