Amyloid fibrils are a hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases and reflect collapse of the cellular protein quality control system. We introduce FibrilPaints, a family of peptides that specifically recognize amyloid fibrils and interface with quality control pathways. They enable sensitive detection and molecular characterization of fibrils associated with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s diseases, offering potential diagnostic applications. In addition, certain FibrilPaints recruit degradation machinery to promote selective clearance of fibrils. Together, they provide molecular tools to dissect amyloid formation and modulate protein quality control in disease.
