Academic Writing Workshop - 11 September 2020 via Zoom

Am Freitag, 11. September 2020 bietet Paul Boland vom ZSK der Uni Regensburg einen eintägigen Workshop zum akademischen Schreiben auf Englisch für das PUR an.

Corona-bedingt wird dieser Workshop auf Zoom stattfinden.

Im Folgenden ein kurzer Überblick über Format und Inhalte:

Course objective: This workshop aims to provide a solid foundation in the conventions of academic writing in English. We will examine structure, vocabulary, linking devices, relevant grammar rules, editing and incremental improvement of texts.

The workshop will, among others, deal with following topics:

• German versus English academic writing – Key conventions and differences examined
• Sentence and paragraph writing in English
• Introductory and concluding sections
• Variation of sentence structure, language and vocabulary
• Essential grammar rules for academic writing
• Editing an academic essay – identifying stylistic mistakes and improving a text
• Participants’ own writing – identifying areas of possible improvement

Course requirements: Participants should take an example of their academic English writing with for use in the second part of the workshop. Each text should be a minimum of two pages long.
