Abstract

A newly-discovered letter from Orlando Lasso to his patron Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle sheds new light on the period before his move to Munich in 1556. Our webinar will present the new document and begin to address a number of questions that it raises. What does a young composer need to do to find employment? In what ways can he rely on a network of friends and supporters? What can we learn about the young Orlando and his sense of his place in the world?
