telc Deutsch für iSTEPS

As part of the iSTEPS project at the University of Regensburg, the iSTEPS telc program offers international students at the University of Regensburg the opportunity to take a telc German test at the B1, B2 or C1 level free of charge. The aim is to give students the opportunity to prove their German language skills with an internationally recognized German certificate. As part of iSTEPS, telc German certificates are offered at levels B1, B2 and C1.

telc (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster) stands for “The European Language Certificates”. It is part of an internationally recognized system of European language examinations. It is fully aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). telc certificates are available in ten languages and for all language levels − including German as a foreign language.

Who is eligible to take part in  iSTEPS telc?

Students enrolled in the following degree programs have the opportunity to apply for a telc examniation which is offered free of charge through the iSTEPS program at UR:

Please note:
The option to participate in a telc examination free of charge through the iSTEPS program is only available to regular students of the above-mentioned degree programs and not to students in double degree programs.

Is there a fee for participating in iSTEPS telc?

As an eligible student admitted to the iSTEPS program, you are exempt from paying any fee. The telc examinations are free of charge for you.

Please note: 
If you have been admitted to an examination and fail to attend without a valid excuse, you will be charged a examination fee of 100 euros. Illness is considered a valid excuse, but this must be documented by a medical certificate.

Can I take the exam with disability or health‑related accommodations?

  • Accommodations for candidates with disabilities or health-related needs may be granted, provided that the request is approved in advance.
  • Please submit your request for special exam accommodations by email to telc​(at)​ur.de well in advance – at least 3 months before the exam date.

How is the exam assessed?

  • Written exam: centrally evaluated by telc gGmbH after the exam papers have been submitted
  • Oral exam: assessed on site by licensed telc examiners
  • Passing score: at least 60% in both the written and the oral exam
  • Overall grade: very good – good – satisfactory – sufficient

How do I receive my exam results and certificate?

  • Results / certificates: approx. 4 weeks after the exam date → notification by email
  • Certificate: sent by post or available for pickup at the ZSK Service Point
