Explanation of the study program

Literary scholars work in libraries, adult education, journalism, literature and cultural management, museums, public relations, marketing and media, politics and business, theatre, tourism, translation and publishing.

And of course, graduates of German studies also teach German - be it at German schools, as lecturers for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or as German teachers at Goethe Institutes.

With our Master's programme you qualify not only, but also for an academic career; after your Master's degree you can start a doctorate.

The study of the sub-discipline Modern German Literature will provide you with
an overview of the history of German Literature from the early modern period to the present, also in an international and intercultural context, based on source reading,
specific knowledge of literary traditions, motifs and genres as well as authors of the German-speaking cultural area in a geographical, historical and cultural-historical context,
Knowledge of poetological conceptions from antiquity to the present and an insight into the relationships between literature and media,
knowledge of literary theories and methods for the scientific analysis of literary texts.

Along the way, you will acquire a lot of knowledge about the world through reading.
