Research Development Office

The Research Development Office within the Presidential Division for Planning and Strategy (external link, opens in a new window)supports the President and the Vice President for Research and Support for Emerging Academics in strategic initiatives related to research development, research reputation, rankings, and research infrastructures:

Research Development

  • Supporting the President and the Vice President for Research and Support for Emerging Academics in strategic research development initiatives

  • Coordinating and supporting presidential working groups and task forces in the development and implementation of strategies related to research development

  • Designing, implementing, evaluating, and further developing strategic intramural funding programs

  • Analyzing and presenting the university’s research performance and development for strategic and public communication purposes

Collaborative Research Centers and Research Training Groups

  • Strategic support and advice during the application process and for on-site reviews

  • Content-related coordination of networking meetings for spokespersons

Excellence Strategy

Coordination, strategic support and advice for the university’s proposals for a Cluster of Excellence

Distinguished Professorships

Strategic support and advice for applications within the Distinguished Professorship and Alexander von Humboldt Professorship programs

Rankings

  • Collection and preparation of data for submission to ranking organizations

  • Analysis, preparation, and presentation of ranking results: within the university (e.g., in committees) and for the wider public (e.g., website and press releases) 

  • Supporting UR’s Executive Board in strategic initiatives related to rankings

  • Compilation and synthesis of subject-specific ranking results

Research Awards

Strategic support during the university’s nomination procedures for the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize and the Heinz Maier Leibnitz Prize:

  • Advising on procedures and processes related to research awards

  • Developing timelines and workflows for nomination processes
