De-registration

Exmatriculation marks the end of your studies; you lose your status as a student. There can be various reasons for exmatriculation, in the best case scenario the successful completion of studies: students are exmatriculated at the end of the semester in which they passed the final examination.

Students can also apply for de-registration, for example if they transfer to another university.

Another reason for exmatriculation is a so-called obstacle to enrolment: This could be a final failed examination, unpaid tuition fees or missed re-registration or lack of proof of health insurance status.

Exmatriculation after Successful Completion of Studies

Students are exmatriculated at the end of the semester in which they have passed their final examination. This means either on 30 September or 31 March. This is regulated by Art. 94 Para. 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (external link, opens in a new window). Decisive for exmatriculation is the issue or receipt of the degree certificate.

If you need to be de-registered before the end of the semester, you can apply to be de-registered at any time. Please submit this application via the SPUR student portal (external link, opens in a new window). Please note that de-registration is only possible once you have received your degree certificate or notification of results. As long as you do not have these documents, please select "other reasons" for your application for de-registration.

How do I Apply for De-registration?

If you wish to complete your studies at the University of Regensburg, you must apply for de-registration. If you wish to interrupt your studies, you may also be eligible for de-registration; however, you may also be able to take a leave of absence.

Please submit your application for de-registration via SPUR, the student portal of the University of Regensburg (external link, opens in a new window). Please log in with your access data and navigate via the menu items Service → Applications → De-registration. Alternatively, you can also reach your destination via My studies → Student services → My degree programmes → Exmatriculation .

Can I De-register Retroactively?

Retroactive de-registration is not possible. The earliest possible de-registration date is the date your deregistration request is received.

When will my Application be Processed?

Applications for de-registration at the end of the current semester will only be processed from 1 June (for the current summer semester) or 1 December (for the current winter semester). Applications submitted earlier will initially be rejected and must be resubmitted  at the dates mentioned above.

When will my Certificate of Exmatriculation be ready?

You can download the certificate of exmatriculation and a certificate of your periods of study in SPUR (external link, opens in a new window) approximately ten working days after submitting your application. You can find the certificate via My Studies → Student Services → Notifications/Certificates.

As soon as the application has been processed, you will receive an automatically generated e-mail to your student e-mail address. Your account is valid for 100 days after de-registration.

How long will my Student ID be valid?

If you exmatriculate immediately or exmatriculate on a certain date during the semester, you must return your UR card, i.e. your student ID card, to the Registrar's Office. If the requirements are met, the semester fee can then be refunded. If you de-register at the end of the semester, it is not necessary to return the card.

Before you return the card, please remember to have any remaining credit for the canteens and cafeterias refunded at the canteen card office of the Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz (external link, opens in a new window).

Please note: The student ID card and the certificates provided via SPUR lose their validity on the date of de-registration. Any further use would be a criminal offence.

How Can I Continue on Another Degree Programme?

If you wish to enroll in a different course of study, you must not de-register from the university. If you would like to continue studying a different degree programme at the University of Regensburg in the next semester, you must apply to the Registrar's Office for a change of degree programme during the re-registration period. If your decision has not yet been finalised, you can apply for an extension of your re-registration by e-mail.
